A forum on science and math for pagans and magicians meets on the 4th Tuesday of every month, at 7:30 pm, at Eye of Horus, 2717 Lyndale Avenue South, Minneapolis. The next meeting will be June 26, and the topic this month is "The Wheel of the Year in Astronomy and Astrology." Solstice is just past – what is a solstice, anyway? For that matter, what are the equinoxes? In general, how well does modern astrology’s understanding of the sun’s motion agree with modern astronomy? We will discuss these and other topics. "science and math for pagans and magicians" is badly needed.
(Personally, I'm a skeptic leaning toward Militant Agnosticism (I don't know, and you don't either). As a Jew, I'm much less interested in Christian vs. pagan than in Do you want to kill me?)

But as for astrology . . . An astrological chart is simply a stylized sky map of the ecliptic. A variety of simple calculations can be done with elementary geometry. Yet I've had dedicated "astrologers" stunned with amazement at my incredible mental feats . . .

I've always thought solstices and equnoxes, and full moons, are excellent times for celebration because they are marked by observable natural phenomena.
