Town Meeting about the War in Iraq
Jan. 2nd, 2006 11:54 amI received a postcard that there is a town hall meeting tomorrow at South High, sponsored by DFL Progressive Caucus, with Rep. Martin Sabo, so that people can express their view.
I can't attend, but is what I emailed Sabo:
I think this war was a mistake from the beginning, and that we should withdraw our troops as quickly as possible. I realized this can't be done overnight, but I would like to see all American troops out by the 4th of July - I think that would be a fitting date. Iraq is independent - let them take care of themselves. We are the invaders now as much a the British were on our soil 230 years ago.
I also think that the time has come for a full investigation of how our tax dollars were spend on this war. From what I have read, Halliburton and other contractors have bilked the American people. There was a word for that during World War II - war profiteer - and it was considered treason. I think it still is treason to steal from the American people.
