from visiting my mother in Florida. Very frustrating trip. My mother still recognizes me, but she often has no censor on what she says, so some pretty mean stuff slips out, as well as total nonsense. Plus, she can only take company an hour or two a day, so I was down there for 5 days for less than 8 hours of her time. The weather was cold. My brother had his girlfriend visiting and didn't really want to spend much time with me. I was in a 2nd rate motel, with very little TV available.

But the pool was heated, and my brother loaned me my Dad's old car, so I got to take a long walk on the beach, and do some window shopping.

I am *so* glad to be home!

Welcome home, dearling one.

We're pondering the ways of Mayday in Minneapolis.
does that brighten the horizon?

Oh yes, Mayday in Minneapolis will be wonderful, and the two of you would be the perfect touch.

As opposed to To-Day in Minneapolis, where the temperature is -8 degrees as I type this, and the Ice Palace is opening for visitors.

It's been ten years now since I first experienced a northern CA winter, and immediately said I could see spending a decade or more getting used to the idea.
I'll double that.
Only it's still just SO WIERD that folks in "warm" places don't have central heating for the month or two it spends at 40-55 degrees (I want it a little warmer than thaaat...)

hugs and happy Chinese New Year - I'm off to the fish market for a whole fish, to cook, since buying things whole is apparently part of new-year prosperity from tip-to-toe good luck sympathetic magic. No, and I'm not eating the fins, eeeither, but the general idea of cooking whole works for me.

I think I'll make a batch of cookies. We can eat THOSE whole.

I'm thinking of all the folks I'm going to so enjoy introducing Lise to, and to Lise. I mean, water-sign librarians, right?

how is Anne Marie these days? Could you send me contact info for her, perhaps?

hugs

Ah, yes...the Ice Palace. I went online awhile back and looked at all the computerized drawings of what it is supposed to look like. Hate the cold, but would like to experience the ice palace. Maybe I'll order a set of the Winter Carnival buttons online. A poor second to being there. I love the Winter Carnival in theory but have only taken in a very few of its events over the years -- probably that little matter of the cold. Brrrrrr.... Mayday is definitely MY celebration. And something that I sorely miss, being here in KS. Maybe someday we can swing a visit back to Mpls. over the Mayday parade weekend. Been very mild here the last few days. Will be getting colder again over the weekend, but hardly any snow this winter -- again for the third in a row. Bad for the crops.

F's mom cracked her knee at the beginning of December and has been in a nursing home while she recovers. It has been hard on her and other things like her eyesight and memory have been getting poorer. Her mood is up and down from one day to the other. I'll keep you and your mom in my thoughts.

And, I should thank Ruth for the reminder of the Chinese New Year. Had it not been so nuts lately from the dept. moving into the new (old) building, I had wanted to give my co-workers red money envelopes again this year as I did a couple of years ago. Well, anyway, happy New Year and Never Thirst.

a friend of mine, [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com], recommended that I contact you, I had asked him a few questions he said that you might be able to answer.

Would you give me a call? 612.825.0471 (don't normally put my phone number out online, but 'net access is scarce at the moment.
