Happy 80th birthday to Ursula K. LeGuin. I've heard her speak at Wiscon a couple of times. Her GoH speech was amazing.
This is the 40th anniversary of the publication of The Left Hand of Darkness as well.
Also, a happy 95th birthday to Martin Gardner, whose columns in "Scientific American" got me started on a lifelong love of math and math puzzles.
