I just climbed my icon

The Witch’s Hat Tower in the Prospect Park neighborhood of Minneapolis is the highest point in town, and the top is the highest place not counting a few skyscrapers, I think. The view is glorious, and the weather today was perfect. 118 steps to the top, and eight open arches. I took pictures, but I haven’t tried to transfer them yet. If any are particularly good, I’ll post them.

It’s only open one day a year, the Pratt Ice Cream Social, which is going on now. I didn’t stay for ice cream or kids games. If you live in the Twin Cities, it’s open til 8. The best view in town, IMHO.

And if they close Pratt School (as I believe is the plan), does that mean it will NEVER BE OPEN AGAIN?

Thank you! I must have been waiting for your post, because I had long since decided to leave work but was still noodling around online. I stopped by the tower on my way home (and called Mom to let her know about it, and she met me there). I think I got some good pictures too.

I'm really glad I got to go up, thanks again for mentioning it!

I didn't know it was ever open! I should mark my calendar for next year as I'd love to check it out. Is this ice cream social on a particular day of the year or is it more variable?

I'd already made plans for the evening and couldn't get over there. Next year!

I missed it this year, but was there last year with the kids. I love going up there.

I also got to go up the Highland Park Water Tower in Saint Paul at the corner of Snelling and Ford Parkway last July. It's open for the St. Paul Regional Water Services open house July 19-20, and in Oct. 10-11.
