Steve called me a little while ago to let me know that Burtrand, the founder of Minnesota Church of the Wicca, Minnesota's first legal Wiccan church passed away last night. Much of the current Wiccan and Pagan community descends from MCOW, directly or indirectly. Burtrand gave me my Second Degree in the Craft, lo these many years ago.

I heard earlier today that [livejournal.com profile] wayfarer38 passed away last night as well.

Be careful, everyone. The trolls are out, the dark is rising.

Do you think there will be a public service? If so I would like to attend. I met Burtrand many years ago when I was first investigating the Craft. I remember meeting him and his wife who's name escapes me at the moment, at a downtown coffee shop. I think that I must have failed to impress them because they didn't follow up on our meeting, but nevertheless for me a face was put on the Craft that for me had previously been a vague mystery. As a result I always felt a certain connection them as steps along my path.

I would think there will be some sort of memorial; I'll post details when I hear them.

about not being followed up on
don't think it had to do with you
B's been having trouble since his stroke
It really cramped his style..
I'm sure any support we all can give to Mary
would help..

I tried looking to see who wayfarer is
and they've already erased the journal!
I think their memories should live on
but I'm different-that way

We just found out from crystal about P.
heard Mary's just fabbererd

when you get close please hug her for us?
let us know about EVERYTHING, please?
we'll figure out what to do with the dogs
and sled our way down

hugs

That's because I suspect she might have meant wayfinder rather than wayfarer :)

The cold is still rising, but the dark has finished rising for this year.
I'm a bit south of you, but we lose one second of daytime tomorrow, and gain 3, 7, 11, 15, 20 seconds each day following. No, of course it's not perceptible yet, but it is as dependable as gravity.

If I may digress toward myself, one of the reasons I keep references to such trivia at hand is that tomorrow, "the darkest day of the year", is my birthday. It is also the birthday of Benjamin Disraeli, Peter Kropotkin and Joseph Stalin; Thomas á Becket; Phil Donahue, Frank Zappa, and Jane Fonda. While I am a stone skeptic toward things like astrology, I do see a clear common denominator of pig-headed self-righteousness there . . .
fwiw

May the return of the outer light be reflected within you.
