Why the bailout bill passed:

Members of Congress were told, among other things, that if it didn't pass, panic would ensue and martial law would have to be declared, according to Brad Sherman of California on the House floor.

I find this horrifying. Laws should be passed because Congress and the people want them, not because of threats. And the last I heard, letters and calls against the bail-out ran 100 to 1 against.

The Congresspeople were given a tremendously hard sell to accept a bailout package. But given what I've heard from the people I know, plus you stat of 100-1 against, I think *relief*, not panic, would have ensued.

Of course, we all know this. Ugh.

Hey, since when has anyone in Congress paid attention to that bit about "government... for the people"?

its the same as when
the war was declared by the president
& fighting for peace was declared unpatriotic.

the arm twisting is frustrating,
I see it as more fear mongering by the republicans

I hope the electoral college has enough Amps to get rid of it

grrrrrrr
