The election is in 5 weeks. Please vote; I am a Democrat, and encourage everyone to vote for Obama/Biden, locally for Franken (or if you prefer, against Coleman) and for Elison.

If you have moved, you need to register to vote. In Minnesota, the deadline is October 14th, so you have two weeks. Forms are available at public libraries and other government offices. In Minnesota, it is also possible to register and vote on election day, but it takes longer.

For more information, again, for Minnesota, go to:
http://www.sos.state.mn.us/home/index.asp?page=204

For other states, there is usually information online at the Secretary of State's website. Or contact the local League of Women Voters.

This is an unpaid announcement, but I am volunteering for the Obama campaign, and really, really want to see him win.

I will of course vote for him, but I doubt if there are many seats in either house of Congress that are as safe as Keith Ellison's. Is there even anyone running against him? I haven't heard a peep.

Actually, he does have an opponent, Barb David White. I know nothing about her, except she is a Republican.

When [livejournal.com profile] iraunink went to vote with me the first time she wasn't registered here - IIRC, it took about three minutes for them to register her. Which is to say, it doesn't take long. If in doubt, check for the day-of requirements - she had ID with this address on it, me to vouch for her, and a bill of some kind addressed to her at this address for documentation.

From what I discovered researching it at the time, you are automagically registered to vote when you get your drivers license. Voter registrations are good for four years (from the last time you voted at in whatever precinct), drivers licenses for five - so, if you're at the address on your drivers license, it's been more than about three months (long enough for all the paperwork to process) and less than four years, chances are really good that you're registered already.

PLEASE amend this post to say that one can register on election day, at the polls, in Minnesota.
