or how I spent one day of my summer vacation.

We got to the Fair about 9:30. I had been hoping to get there at 9, when the buildings open, but it's hard to wake up early when you're on vacation.

Wandered around to the usual places: the Coliseum, the Grandstand, the Creative Arts building, Heritage Square. Didn't get to the horse barns or the Art building this year.

There is a new Caribbean restaurant that is wonderful - I had two orders of their crab cakes, Martin had Jambalaya. We went to another place to get key lime pie on a stick for dessert. However, it was dipped in chocolate, and the flavors didn't quite mesh. Martin tried a sparkling cider float, and liked it very much. We have to get vanilla ice cream and try it at home. I had my usual onion rings from Danielson and Daughters, near the food building which was yummy, as usual.

We signed petitions to repeal the conceal-carry law, allow instant run-off voting, and to recall Pawlenty. We talked to the people at the Green Party booth for a while. The DFL booth had Kerry and Dean tables, but not Kucinich, so I didn't stop for long.

We found the place with the cinnamon almonds is in the International market now, and has cinnamon pecans and cashews as well. After sampling all three, we got the pecans. This was just after olives on a stick - 5 different kinds. I don't really like jalapeno olives - a bit too intense and conflicting, IMHO. I really like garlic olives, but I knew that.

My stomach is feeling a teensy bit delicate right now.

Around 3:30, we were looking at the DNR pond, and decided we had had as much fun as we could take, and came home.

*Sigh* It's the end of summer.
