Weekend

A big thank you to Melissa who has a black Saturn. She gave us a jump at Supercon X today. It didn't work and we had to call AAA. Minnesota Nice is a Good Thing.

The backstory. We decided we needed a weekend getaway. If we just went to a hotel by ourselves, it would be expensive and there would be nothing but Mundanes around. So we went to Supercon in Rochester. The hotel rates were reasonable, and we figured it would be amusing.

I got home Friday, and it took us about as long as I figured it would to finish packing and load the car. Around 3 o'clock we were ready to roll, but the car would not turn over. Nothing. Nada. This is what happens in Minnesota in January when it gets below zero.

Fortunately, Rick was around, and jumped the car, and we took off, a bit late, and somewhat frazzled. A hour and a half later we pulled into the hotel.

The hotel website had led me to believe there was a restaurant and bar on site. There wasn't. A soon as we were registered and unloaded, we started out to find dinner. I had looked on Yahoo and such earlier, and had a pretty good idea which direction to walk. Not as much was open as I had hoped, and the first couple of places we came to were either closed or expensive. We found the downtown Radisson, but the restaurant on the ground floor was also expensive. We went into the lobby because by this time we were chilled. The very nice lady at the desk told us about McCormicks on the second floor. We had a decent dinner for a decent price, and joked about the fact that we had dinner at the Rad at Con - but we weren't actually *staying* there.

Friday night, Saturday and Saturday night is a pleasant blur of playing "Give Me The Brain", "Time Out" etc, etc. Ryan, thank you for bringing all your games! There was also the seven deadly sins done in chocolate, ice cream drinks, crayons and paper, jigsaw puzzles, and the hot tub.

I sometimes think it might be fun to hold a whole con in a hot tub. Yes, it would have to be a very small con or a very large hot tub.

This morning, we woke up, ate breakfast, packed, loaded the car and prepared to depart.

The car, once again, would not turn over. Nothing. Nada.

ARRGGGHHHH.

Melissa was parked next to us, and went to great trouble to give us a jump. Didn't work.

We called AAA, who said "10 to 60 minutes". I figured, at least they didn't say 3 hours.

About a half hour later, the truck pulled up. Ten minutes after that we were heading out.

Sigh. The battery obviously won't hold a charge any more. Tomorrow, after work. I go to the parts store, or something. I don't know if I can put in a battery myself, but I suspect if I ask around, I can get help on this.

The stress about the car seems to have cancelled the relaxation of the weekend.

I'm glad I commute to work by bus.
